Tubs that are to be lifted by tower crane
We make 250and 333Ltr Tubs in Rim Lift and Base-Lift designs. The crane lift tubs have a metal ring attached but can be rim-lift or base-lift. When using the H frame the tubs must be base lift tubs. We manufacture tubs that are tailored to all requirements.
Accessories for Lifting
Tubs that comply with the LOLER regulations as an accessory for lifting are individually load tested by an independent approved test house, individually marked, certified and easily identified as being within date. We attach a metal label to the ring with the Safe Working Load (SWL) and its 6 month expiry date. We also permanently mark the tubs stating that the tub is only to be crane lifted if the tub inspection is in date.
After 6 months the tub needs to be inspected again by a competent person and added to the sites 6 month inspection list (any building site with a tower crane has to have testing of accessories for lifting every 6 months).
H frame
As an alternative to the above we have designed a device (an H frame) it stops the one piece base lift tub from being crushed when crane lifted. It utilizes straps from the tower crane to cradle through rings on the ends of the device, these pass underneath the tub, between the fork-lift legs and back through the ring. The strap is attached back to the hook of the crane. The device complies with the LOLER regulations and is independently inspected. The tower crane straps must comply with the LOLER regulations. The H frame must be added to the sites insurance certificate and be inspected by a competent person every 6 months.
LOLER-The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998
LOLER is the approved code of practice and guidance covering the safe use of lifting equipment. It is the responsibility that any company operating lifting equipment or an accessory for lifting must ensure that these new rules are adhered to. The regulations state that all equipment and accessories for lifting should be thoroughly examined as follows:-
- In the case of lifting equipment for lifting persons or an accessory for lifting, examinations must be carried out every six months.
- In the case of other lifting equipment, examinations are to be carried out every twelve months. (LOLER Regulation 9 paragraphs 1 and 3 refer).
- In either case examinations must be in accordance with an approved examination scheme.
- Examinations must take place following an occasion when exceptional circumstances have jeopardized the safety of the lifting equipment. All equipment shall be stamped with the safe working load and have some means to identify that the inspection is in date.
